When I ran for Mayor, I knew Detroit was in a difficult position. I also knew of Detroit’s tremendous untapped potential and believed in the promise this city holds for families and businesses, large and small.
We have moved steadfastly to restore trust in City government, re-engineer operating procedures and create an environment that promotes efficient delivery of City services.
The administration has implemented solutions to problems that have long hindered Detroit’s progress. In early 2010 the creation of the Cobo Center Regional Authority was completed; this authority oversees upgrades and improvements that will allow Cobo Center to remain competitive. The City also acquired the temporary MGM Grand Casino and secured the funding necessary to renovate the facility into a combined Detroit Police Department and Fire Department Public Safety headquarters.
Quality of life for Detroit residents remains a high priority. We have aggressively targeted challenges that impede the vibrancy of neighborhoods, holding vacant property owners accountable and utilizing federal dollars to aggressively eliminate blight by demolishing dangerous and abandoned residential structures.
Detroit is perfectly positioned for a successful future. Now is the time for reinvestment and recommitment to this great American city. Now is the time for everyone to put aside decades-old differences and work together in the best interest of a stronger Detroit. Now is the time to get engaged and be part of Detroit’s transformation. Now is the time.
I am optimistic about the future and invite you to join me as we continue to shape Detroit and govern in a manner that makes Detroiters proud!
