Most Significant Accomplishments

  • In addition to the ordinances I have passed, I also hold quarterly town meetings on issues of concern to our residents like drug houses, abandoned houses, and the juvenile justice system. The focus of these meetings is to provide citizens with the information they need to help city officials tackle various problems in Detroit neighborhoods. For example, at a town meeting on abandoned homes in September of last year residents reported more than 100 problem addresses.
  • My office passed over 75 addresses on to the Department of Building and Safety Engineering for inspection and, where necessary, demolition.

Mission

  • To use my office to pass legislation, conduct projects, and spearhead other initiatives that have the impact of impacting the health, well-being for Detroit's residents.

Vision

  • Establishing Detroit-run programs for problem gamblers.
  • Developing a multi-year master plan for improvements to the City's parks and recreation center.
  • Using casino revenue to finance special activities and programs for elders
  • Allocating additional dollars to the narcotics division of Detroit Police Department.
  • Retooling the Fire Department, supplying firefighters with new gear, additional manpower and training.

Goals & Objectives

  • To see that the Auditor General completes an audit of the Human Right’s Department’s contract compliance activities to make sure that Detroit-based contractors are receiving their fair share of work.
  • To encourage the police department to enact reforms (refer to your earlier research and our final recommendations to City Council).
  • To continue working to expedite demolition of dangerous buildings throughout the city.
  • To see that Detroit's neglected parks and recreations centers will finally get some much-needed attention.
