Project Vision

The Fitzgerald Revitalization Project is an initiative led by the City of Detroit to stabilize and strengthen neighborhoods by transforming publicly-owned vacant land and structures from liabilities into community assets.

Rather than work from parcel to parcel, the project is focused on a quarter-square mile area within the Fitzgerald neighborhood and is developing a comprehensive strategy to address more than 100 vacant structures and 300 vacant parcels at once. We targeted Fitzgerald as a pilot for this program because it is a good neighborhood with good housing stock, though 30% of the parcels in the area are vacant lots or empty homes.

The City has been working with residents and local stakeholders to develop a vision and is looking for additional implementation partners to turn it into a reality beginning in 2016.
