The Electrical Inspection Team of BSEED's Construction Division is responsible for conducting inspections of permitted work, periodic inspections of buildings, and Electrical Licensing examinations. The City of Detroit issues trade permits to protect the public by ensuring that work is being performed by qualified and licensed people and meets the code standards.
Effective April 4, 2017: The Skilled Trades Regulation Act: Public Act 407 of 2016 was adopted. This Act supercedes the Electrical Administrative Act: Public Act 217 of 1956. Effective December 1, 2016: Renewal of your 2017 Electrical License(s) must be accompanied with a Certificate of Completion from an approved instructional course in the 2014 National Electrical Code. Effective February 8, 2016: The 2015 Michigan Residential Code for one and two family dwellings was adopted by the State of Michigan, and thus on the same date, will be enforced in the City of Detroit. Due to this new adoption, any electrical permits issued on or after February 8, 2016, will be held to the 2015 Michigan Residential Code.
