Grow Detroit’s Young Talent (GDYT) is a citywide summer jobs program that trains and employs young Detroiters between the ages of 14 and 24 for 6 weeks in July and August. There is a broad range of jobs available to the participants. Examples of jobs include: event planning, accounting, community clear-up, retail and Junior Police or Fire Cadets to name a few. Last year, over 8,000 local youth received employment, which is our goal again this year.

Grow Detroit’s Young Talent

The mission of the Office of Development and Grants is to compete nationally for, and support the implementation of, public and private investments that enhance the quality of life for Detroit residents.

In partnership with foundations, corporate philanthropic leaders, and federal, state and local government agencies, the Development function of the office works to build public, private partnerships to support City priorities. Created along with the Office of the Chief Financial Officer as part of the City's plan to develop its fiscal health and stability, the Office also works to ensure grant funds are spent in an accurate and timely manner through its Grants function.
