DETROIT COUNTS!
DETROITERS ENCOURAGED TO COMPLETE THE CENSUS FORM

Forms Need to be Mailed Back by April 15

By now, Detroit residents should have received a U.S. Census form, which will help determine the number of people who live in Detroit. The City of Detroit encourages you to answer the 10 short questions and then mail the form back by April 15.

The Census is Important
It is important that everyone be counted, so that we can get our fair share of $400 billion per year in federal funds. In fact, Detroit stands to lose as much as $1500 for every person not counted during the Census.  And, we surely need all the money we can get.  By returning a completed Census form, you help the City of Detroit provide better services and infrastructure – including schools, senior centers, job training centers, hospitals, road projects (bridges, roads, tunnels) and emergency services.

Additionally, the Census determines the number of representatives for Detroit in the Michigan legislature and for the state of Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives. The more people counted by the Census in Detroit, the more representatives we have to work on our behalf in Lansing and Washington.

The Census is Easy
When you take 10 minutes to answer 10 questions you help Detroit get what it needs for the next 10 years.

The Census is Safe
Unsure about how the information will be used? Don’t worry! By law, the Census Bureau cannot share your answers with anyone, including the IRS, Immigration, FBI, CIA, Friend of the Court or Detroit police.  All Census Bureau employees are sworn to protect the confidentiality of the information.
