Application to Determine ADA Paratransit EligibilityADA Paratransit Service is a special service of the Detroit
Department of Transportation (DDOT) and the Detroit People Mover
provided to individuals determined to be ADA paratransit-eligible when
these individuals are unable to use regular accessible fixed route
buses and service to meet their particular trip needs. DDOT provides
this service through Detroit MetroLift. This service is available
through other transit systems nationwide which operate non-commuter
fixed route transportation services for the general public. If you are
certified as "eligible", your certification can be used (with certain
conditions) on other transit systems' ADA Paratransit Services.
The paratransit service is provided by use of a vehicle that is
generally smaller than a regular bus and is more direct in its delivery
when transporting you to a given destination. This service is
considered a safety net, complimentary to a regular bus service, and
therefore requires a determination of eligibility for this service. In
order for the paratransit provider to make a complete and accurate
decision of your eligibility for service, detailed information about
your travel capabilities is needed.
If a determination of your eligibility cannot be reached within the
21 days of receiving your application, you will receive a temporary ADA
paratransit eligibility status which you may use until a final
determination of your eligibility can be made. If your application for
certification is denied, you may appeal the decision.
Once you have been certified as eligible, you will receive an
identification card to be used wherever your travel needs require you
to use ADA Paratransit Service.
