The Summer Food Service Program provides FREE nutritious breakfasts and
lunches at community sites through parks recreation program centers,
school partnerships and through social or community agencies. The goal
of the program is to ensure children receive at least one nutritious
meal per day when school is not in session. The meals served meet the
USDA nutritional requirements for youth.
This program is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), administered by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE), Grants Coordination and School Support office and sponsored by the City of Detroit Department of Health and Wellness Promotion (DHWP) Nutrition Services with assistance from other city agencies and non-profit organizations.
Who is eligible:
Youth up to age 18.
Low to moderate income
At least 50% eligible for free and reduced meals during the school year.
Mid-June through end of August
Monday through Friday
Breakfast 9:00 am - 10:00 am
Lunch 12:00 am -2:00 pm
Meals served at many locations in Detroit.
