OverviewThe Detroit Department of Health and Wellness Promotion (DHWP) HIV/AIDS Programs began in 1985 and continues to provide a complete continuum of prevention, early intervention and care services for the general community and those populations engaged in, or subject to high-risk behaviors.
In addition, the HIV/AIDS Programs provides education and training; technical assistance to community-based organizations (CBOs) that provide HIV/AIDS related services in the Detroit and surrounding areas; and housing services for individuals and families infected and affected by HIV/AIDS.
The HIV/AIDS Programs employs a staff of administrators, outreach workers and public health professionals that are trained in behavioral health, social work, substance abuse, health education, community organization, and outreach.
Currently, all of the HIV/AIDS Programs services and activities are supported by local funding, state and federal grants.
