Children Special Health Care Services

Children's Special Health Care Services (CSHCS) is a program within the Department of Community Health. It is for children and some adults with special health care needs and their families.

Who can join CSHCS?
Children must have a qualifying medical condition and be 20 years old or under. Persons 21 and older with cystic fibrosis or certain blood coagulation disorders may also qualify for services. CSHCS covers more than 2,500 diagnoses. A CSHCS Medical Consultant will review each condition to determine eligibility.

What DHWP CSHCS services are provided to persons with chronic health problems?

  • Coverage and/or Referral for specialty services based on the child’s health needs.
  • Coordination of services with many providers working within various agencies.
  • Home Visits
  • Assistance with Children’s Special Needs Fund
  • Linkage with the Family Support Network
  • Application completion
  • Community-based services
  • Newborn hearing Follow-up
  • Case management services
  • Transition from CSHCS to a Medicaid HMO
  • Linkage to Early On Michigan
  • Assistance with public schools Special Education services
