Overview:

The Lead Poisoning Prevention and Control Program prevents childhood
lead poisoning, identifies and treats lead poisoned children, and
facilitates the reduction of environmental hazards in the home.
1. The program provides services through four components;
Testing of all children under the age of six

2. Case Management for lead poisoned children
a. Home visits
b. Counseling
c. Lead Referrals
3. Environmental Inspections
a. Lead inspection
b. Risk assessment
c. Lead dust hazard reduction
d. safe work practice education
e. HEPA-Vacuum Loan Program
f. Referrals
4. Policy Development
a. Lead education
b. Referral information to WIC, lead removal (abatement) and super cleaning (interim control)
c. Educational literature in English, Spanish and Arabic
Who is Eligible:
For lead testing families with children under the age of six are welcome.
For Lead Prevention information testing, planning or abatement the community at large is welcome to contact the program

Follow These Steps To Protect You Family From Lead Hazards:
- Get your young children tested for lead, even if they seem healthy.
- Wash children's hands, bottles, pacifiers and toys often.
- Make sure children eat health, low fat foods high in calcium, iron and vitamin C.
- Run tap water for at least one minute before using.
- Regularly wet clean floors, window sills, door jambs and other surfaces.
- Wipe soil off shoes before entering the house.
- Talk to your landlord about fixing surfaces with peeling or chipping paint.
- Take precautions to avoid exposure to lead dust when remodeling or renovating (call 1800-424-LEAD for guidelines)
