Detroit News

Mayor Dave Bing today credited the efforts of Detroit Fire, Homeland Security and Police departments, municipal departments, and thousands of volunteers who joined together to successfully patrol the city  during the three-night Angels' Night weekend.
According to the Detroit Fire Department, there were 169 total fires over the three-night Angels' Night period. This figure is comparable to the average daily fire total 35-40. There were 119 fires reported in 2009.
"I want to thank the thousands of volunteers and citizens who spent countless hours over the weekend to adopt abandoned structures, keep an eye on their neighborhood, and patrol the streets of Detroit to keep the city and its residents safe," said Mayor Bing.  "Their efforts are an inspiration and speak to the passion, commitment and indomitable spirit of Detroit."
Mayor Bing also expressed gratitude to the many City employees and corporate sponsors whose efforts and generosity were critical to the success of the campaign.

The 2010 Angels' Night campaign started months before the actual weekend as Detroit Homeland Security brought together personnel from Detroit Fire and Police to identify areas with higher potential frequency of fires.
