CITY OF DETROIT ANNOUNCES STREET CLOSURES FOR NCAA FINAL FOUR EVENTS APRIL 3 – 6
Motorists traveling to downtown Detroit for events surrounding the NCAA Final Four should prepare for street closings and some traffic congestion from April 3 – 6, 2009. The street closings are as follows:
NCAA Final Four 5KM Run/Walk - Saturday, April 4
The NCAA Final Four 5K Run/Walk will start at Cobo Center at 8:30 a.m., proceed south on Civic Center Drive, east on Atwater, north on St.Aubin, east on Franklin, south on Dubois, west on Atwater, south on path to Riverwalk, west on Riverwalk and will end near Civic Center Drive around 9:30 am.
The streets along the route will be closed as the run/walk progress. All streets crossing the route will be fully closed intermittently as the event progresses under police supervision.
NCAA Final Four Dribble - Sunday, April 5
The NCAA Final Four Dribble will feature as many as 4,000 youngsters dribbling from Comerica Park to Cobo Center. The event will start at Brush and Adams (Comerica Park) around 2 p.m., proceed west on Adams, south on Park, south on Washington Blvd. and end at Cobo Center around 4 p.m.
For the Final Four Dribble, the following streets will be closed from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.:
In addition, these streets will be closed as the event progresses:
- Brush from Montcalm to Beacon
- Adams from Brush to Witherell
- Adams from Witherell to Park
- Park from Adams to Washington Blvd
- Washington Blvd from Park to Congress
- All streets crossing the route will be fully closed intermittently as the event progresses under police supervision.
NCAA Big Dance Event - Friday, April 3 through Sunday, April 5
This event will be at the East Riverfront parking lots, located south of Atwater. As a
result, Atwater Street between St.Antoine and Rivard streets will be closed on:
April 3 11 a.m. – 10:30 p.m.
April 4 11 a.m. – 8 :30 p.m.
April 5 11 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.
