Welcome to the Office of the Detroit City Clerk Archives and Records Management Division!

The Detroit City Clerk's Archives and Records Management Division makes City Council records accessible to citizens and employees for research and inspection.  The division is responsible for the retention and disposition of the inactive operating records of the Detroit City Clerk's office.

The Detroit City Clerk Archives and Records Management Division include the following:

  • Appropriations (City of Detroit)
  • Budget (City of Detroit)
  • Casino Information
  • City Charter
  • City Council Minutes (1970's to 2010)
  • Dangerous Building Letters
  • Departmental Files
  • Detroit City Code (Incl. Loose leaf supplements numbers 1 – 23, excluding number 8)
  • City Council Proceedings {sometimes referred as Journal of Common Council or Journal of City Council} (1824 to present)
  • Neighborhood Empowerment Zone (Applications)
  • Neighborhood Opportunity Fund (NOF) / Block Grant
  • Oaths of Office
  • Ordinances
  • Petitions ( City Council Hearing Requests)
  • Special Subject Files
  • Subdivision Plats
  • Tax Abatements

The City of Detroit City Clerk Archives and Records Management Division does not have birth, death, divorce, or marriage certificates.

 2000 , 2001 , 2002 , 2003 , 2004 , 2005 , 2006 , 2007 , 2008 , 2009, 2010 , 2011 , 2012.

Procedures
To obtain documents and/or schedule an appointment, please complete the Appointment or Public Records Request Form and return via:

                                    8am - 5pm, Monday - Friday

Once your request is received, our office will respond within 48 hours. Archival material may not be taken out of the Archives and Records Management Division and due to the nature of the historical documents, no food, beverages, candy or gum is allowed..

All copies are .25 cents per copied page.

Due to staffing limitations, the City Clerk's Archives Office is open by Appointment Only
