Requirements to Obtain a Demolition Permit

If a contractor is pulling a demolition permit they:

  • Must be licensed with the State of Michigan and Registered with the City of Detroit as a Wrecking Contractor
  • Owner's signature must be notarized
  • Obtain a letter from the Historical Department located on the 2nd floor of the CAYMC, the property is located in the historical district
  • Obtain approval from the City of Detroit Department of Public Works, Street Maintenance and Traffic Engineering Sections
  • Obtain clearances from water, gas and electric and a property check
  • Obtain application approval by the Zoning and Structural Division (room 409)
  • Process application at the Building Permits Counter (room 402)
  • Pay all appropriate fees for the permit at the Cashier's station the same day

If owner is pulling permits they:

  • Show Proof of Ownership (Deed)
  • Owner's signature must be notarized
  • Obtain letter from the Historical Department located on the 2nd floor of the CAYMC, if the property is located in the historical district
  • Obtain approval from City of Detroit Department of Public Works Street Maintenance and Traffic Engineering Sections
  • Obtain clearances from water, gas and electric and a property check
  • Obtain application approval from the Zoning and Structural Division (room 409)
  • Process application at the Building Permits Counter (room 402)
  • Pay all appropriate fees for the permit at the Cashier's station the same day
