The Electrical Unit of the Buildings Safety Engineering & Environmental Department is responsible for approving and issuing electrical permits (trade permit), conducting inspections of permitted work, conducting periodic inspections of buildings, and conducting trade licensing examinations. The City issues trade permits to protect the public by ensuring that work is being performed by qualified people.

You can now get a monthly overview of the Electrical Inspectors in field days. On these days, Inspectors begin their inspections from their home at 8:00 a.m. They are not in the office to give inspection times. If you need an approximate time for a field day inspection, please call the office the day  before the inspection at 313-224-3141 or 224-3142 between the hours of 8:00 a.m and 9:30 a.m.  Please click here to access the calendar. You may also access the calendar under the Links heading on the lower right hand side. Thank you!
The Electrical Division will automatically schedule a re-inspection of a job location if the compliance date on the violation notice has passed without action on the part of the permit holder, or in the case of a Business License inspection, the business owner. For further information, or to provide an explanation for postponement, please contact the Electrical Division.
