PATRIOTS NOT THE ONLY ONES UPSET SUPER BOWL WEEKEND

DPD OPERATION RESULTS IN MORE THAN 330 ARRESTS

DETROIT- The Detroit Police Department’s latest crime fighting initiative proved quite effective in apprehending those involved in criminal activity as well as seizing a significant amount of illegal narcotics and firearms.  The three-day effort called Operation: Pre-Game took place Thursday, January 31st through Saturday, February 2nd.  The goal of the operation was to reduce criminal activity in targeted areas utilizing critical information gathered from prior investigations as well as citizen complaints.

Officers made 332 arrests (140 felony, 135 misdemeanor, 57 juvenile) during Operation: Pre-Game in addition to issuing 842 tickets for various ordinance violations.  There were also 40 narcotic raids that took place city-wide resulting in nearly $65,000 worth of drugs and 30 handguns taken off the street.

“This three-day operation is a clear indicator that there is still a lot of work for us all to do and those involved in criminal activity should expect something similar soon”, said Police Chief Ella Bully-Cummings.  “Pre-Game was too effective for it to be a one time initiative. We may even look to expand the number of days the next time around. It’s all about using our limited resources wisely.”

A number of individuals were taken into custody that had outstanding warrants for their arrest including 37 individuals wanted for domestic violence assaults.
