GANG SQUAD TAKES DOWN DANGEROUS DRUG CREW

Following up on an anonymous tip of illegal activity occurring at a home located in the 800 block of Atkinson, the Detroit Police Department’s Gang Squad set up surveillance to confirm these criminal offenses.  On Thursday, April 10, 2008 at approximately 7:45 p.m., a search warrant was executed and six men were arrested who ranged in age from 22 to 34 years.  In addition to the arrests, officers recovered 27 pounds of marijuana, 25 pounds of cocaine, $8-thousand in cash, two long guns, and one handgun equipped with body armor piercing ammunition.  The street value of the drugs totaled more than $300-thousand.  Each defendant is now waiting to be charged with multiple crimes including “Possession with Intent to Deliver Marijuana and Cocaine” and “Felony Firearm”.

“With the large amount of narcotics, weapons and ammunition recovered at this particular home it is clear that the arrested individuals were full ready to engage in the type of violence that has destroyed many families in our community”, said Police Chief Ella M. Bully Cummings.  “It was only a matter of time before this situation exploded and left its tragic remains throughout the neighborhood.  This is proof that when citizens call us… it makes a difference.”
