FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS REGARDING THE APPLICATION PROCESS
1. Do I copy or bring in the original documents?
• Bring in the original and a copy of each required documents.
2. Should I get a copy of my driving record?
• DPD does not require you to obtain it; however, it would be a benefit to
you to see what is on your driving record and maintain for your records.
3. Where do I get the detailed earnings statement?
• There are Social Security Administration buildings in Detroit and most
neighboring cities. Here are a few:

• You may also go to www.socialsecurity.gov to find the office closest to
you. Also, be sure to obtain a NON-CERTIFIED copy of your earnings,
including the employer and wages earned at each employer.
4. How long is the entire process?
• It varies depending on the candidate’s information and background
history. If there are no problems, it could be as short as 13weeks from
date of submitting application and all required documents.
5. Can I use my free copy of the credit report I receive on-line?
• No. It must be an official copy from one of the following three (3) major
Credit Bureau Agencies, i.e. Transunion, Experian or Equifax.
6. I’ve been through the process before. Do I have to complete all the same
forms again?
• Yes, but the investigator will provide you with additional
information pertinent to your specific needs in the process.
7. When will I be assigned to an investigator?
• You will meet your investigator when you are assigned a date to return
all required documents.
8. If I have a balance at a college/university or former school I attended, will
they give me a copy of my transcript?
• Often times, it will be mailed directly to our Recruiting office or you may
receive an unofficial copy. DPD will accept it directly from the school or
from you.
9. If I am in school and offered employment, can I do both?
• The academy is a full-time job and commitment. It is up to you to
determine if you can do both.
10. Where do I go to get my application notarized?
• At your banking institution, Post office or Tax Preparer.
DPD Recruiting has people on staff that will notarize your application for a
nominal fee.
11. What if I have a Misdemeanor Conviction?
• If you are a Wayne County resident, who has only one (1)
non-violent conviction and has lived a clean life for at least
five (5) years, you are eligible to set aside that past conviction.
