The Summer Property Tax Deferment program allows eligible Detroit residents to defer the payment of their summer property taxes until February 15. The taxes you wish to defer must be levied on property that is your homestead. This deferment is not automatic, but must be filed each year. The filing period for the deferment is July 1 through September 15.
To qualify your income must be below $25,000 and you must fall into one of the following categories:- Age 62 or older, which includes the unmarried spouse of a person who was age 62 or older at the time of death
- Paraplegic, Quadriplegic
- Eligible serviceman, eligible veteran, eligible widow or widower
- Blind
- Totally and permanently disabled
