Michigan Homestead Property Tax Credit / Home Heating Credit / Prescription Drug Credit Claims
Detroit homeowners and renters may be eligible to receive credit for the property taxes and heating bills that they pay throughout the year. In addition, seniors age 65 and older may be eligible to receive a credit for the money spent on prescriptions. To file for these credits you must bring the following information with you to your nearest NCH office:
1. Social Security number (both husband and wife, if married)
2. Annual household income (includes Social Security, S.S.I., Veteran’s benefits, interest/dividends, etc.)
3. City and County property tax bills (homeowners only)
4. Twelve rent receipts (renters only)
5. Landlord’s name and address (renters only)
6. Medical insurance or HMO premiums paid for you and your family
7. Gas bills for the entire year or a letter from MichCon
NCH does not prepare income taxes. If you are required to file income taxes, please see a tax professional, or contact the Internal Revenue Service, Michigan Department of Treasury, or the City of Detroit Income Tax Division.
