RECRUITMENT ANNOUNCEMENTS
Recruitment announcements for each City of Detroit Position will contain the following Information:- Salary information.
- Expected vacancies.
- Job duties.
- Educational requirements.
- Experience requirements.
- License requirements.
- Information about the evaluation process.
AGE REQUIREMENTS
The minimum age for most jobs is 18. Lower minimum ages are listed on the recruitment announcement. Interested applicants may apply for a job if they will be the minimum age within six months of the application, but cannot be hired until they reach the minimum age.

ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS
Education and training requirements are firm. To qualify for employment, applicants must meet the minimum requirements listed on the job announcement. Applicants must possess the licenses and certificates listed for the job.
If the announcement says that a license or certificate is desirable, preference is given to those who have it. The applicant’s work record and personal history must show the ability to perform the duties of the job. The work history must show reliability and the ability and desire to act responsibly.
If requested, any information or document, including licenses and recommendations, that verifies the applicant’s background must be provided prior to consideration for hiring by the Human Resources Department.

EVALUATION PROCESS
The recruitment announcement contains information about how Human Resources will evaluate the application. Steps in the evaluation process include some, or all, of the following:- Review of qualification
- Written testing
- Oral interviews
- Oral appraisals
- Demonstration of skills and abilities
- Evaluation of experience and training
When an application is submitted, Human Resources will give a written notice that explains the next step in the process. Human Resources will also notify applicants in writing about any written or oral step in the procedure. No notification is sent unless Human Resources needs the applicant to come in for a test, oral appraisal or oral interview. Contact information will be listed on the written notification.Applicants must successfully pass each step in the process in order to go to the next step.
Applicants will be notified in writing of the results of the examination, which consist of a combined score of all steps in the evaluation process. Applicants who passed will be told their combined score.
Applicants who did not pass may submit a new application as long as the job is still open to the public. However, applicants must wait 90 days from the original test date to take the written test again.

REASONABLE ACCOMMODATIONS
Applicants with disabilities should notify Human Resources if special accommodations are required. Human Resources provides reasonable accommodations for applicants, as specified under state and federal law. Examples of reasonable accommodation may include the use of an interpreter for the hearing impaired, the use of magnification tools for the visually impaired, and adjustments in timing. If such an accommodation is required, applicants must fill out the accommodation questionnaire on the application.The Human Resources Department will notify applicants with information regarding test and accommodation procedures. The City of Detroit provides reasonable accommodations on the job. If applicants believe they qualify for an accommodation, check yes on the form provided in the application.

ADDRESS CHANGES
The testing results are mailed to the address you provided on the application. If your address changes, please notify Human Resources:
ELIGIBILITY LIST
After tests are scored, Human Resources places the names of applicants, with passing scores, on an eligibility list. Individuals are placed on the eligibility list from highest to lowest score.
When a job becomes available, the top scorer is contacted from the eligibility list and offered employment.
Due to new groups continuously testing, the eligible list may change daily, until the testing period ends. Names stay on the eligible list for a minimum of one year.
Applicants remain eligible as long as their name is on the list. Applicants may submit a new application for any posted and open position.

REVIEW AND APPEAL
Applicants may request a review of test scores or other ratings up to 90 days after notification is mailed.
If an applicant believes the results reported are incorrect, or erroneous, an appeal may be submitted to the Director of Human Resources. The appeal must be in writing and contain specific reasons why you believe your final results should be changed.
Any appeals must be submitted within 30 days of the mailing date of the notification.

CERTIFICATION (HIRING)
Upon receipt of a job offer, applicants must verify their identity and eligibility for employment by completing an Employment Eligibility Verification, I-9 Form.
Afterwards, a medical examination is given that includes testing for use of controlled substances. In order to be employed by the City of Detroit, applicants must pass the medical examination.
Applicants will be notified in writing, regarding their medical examination day, time and location.
