Hazardous Waste

What should you bring?

Nearly every item found in your garage, basement, kitchen, bathroom cupboards and home office that you know doesn't belong in the regular trash.

What materials will be accepted?
Materials We Can Accept

Glass, Plastic, Paper, Styrofoam, Metal, Home Office Equipment and Electronics, Batteries, Automotive Fluids, Workshop Supplies, Pesticides, etc.
   

Materials We Cannot Accept

  • Items that can be placed in a refuse (Courville) container. Refuse is food, waste products, etc.    
  • Items that are considered bulk. Bulk items are household appliances, carpeting, old clothes, shoes, furniture, etc.

Where should I take my household hazardous waste?

HHW Receiving Facility at 2000 E. Ferry Street
(near the I-75 and I-94 freeways)
Detroiters Can Call (313) 923-2240 to schedule a time to bring household hazardous materials (HHW) to the facility, which is open year round Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This facility is open to Detroit residents ONLY!  There is no charge!

 

In addition, residents can drop off recyclable items
at various locations throughout the year.
