Mission Statement
Deliver cost-effective, high quality employment, growth sector/high demand training, and educational services to Detroit residents in an effort to promote economic self-sufficiency and supply qualified talent to businesses. Create workforce and economic development partnerships with businesses, faith- and community-based organizations, education and training institutions, philanthropic, and government agencies.
The City of Detroit Workforce Development Department (DWDD), as a unit of city government, was first established in 1975 to plan and implement federally-funded job training programs for Detroit area residents. Over three decades later, we continue to update our mix of high-demand training, career enhancement, and reemployment services offered to youth, adults, and laid-off workers. The Department, which serves as grant recipient for the Detroit Workforce Development Board, is responsible for linking employers with the areas's most skilled pool of candidates.
