The Consumer Advocacy Division is part of the Senior Citizens Department. This division:

  • Conducts research
  • Develops programs for consumer education and protection, in consultation with other public and private agencies
  • Provides consumer information and educational material to the public
  • Reviews, evaluates and resolves complaints


The Consumer Advocacy Division also can provide assistance regarding:

  • Purchase of any goods or services sold in an unfair, deceptive or unconscionable manner. Complaints are accepted from any Detroit resident or any non-resident who has made the purchase from a Detroit merchant
  • Information on consumer matters or products
  • Good consumer skills
