1/13/2012 - CITY OF DETROIT OFFERS CONVENIENT PARKING FOR EVENTS IN DOWNTOWN DETROIT JANUARY 14
Downtown Detroit will bustle with activity this weekend as the Auto Show opens to the public and a number of activities take place on Saturday, Jan. 14. The City of Detroit Municipal Parking Department will provide convenient parking for customers attending these events.

1/13/2012 - CITY OF DETROIT OFFICES TO CLOSE FOR KING CELEBRATION Some City Offices Closed for Furlough on Jan. 17
Most City of Detroit offices will be closed on Monday, Jan. 16 in observance of the Martin Luther King holiday. Normal Police, Fire and Water and Sewerage services will be provided.

1/11/2012 - NORTH AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW CHARITY PREVIEW TO BRING THOUSANDS DOWNTOWN ON JANUARY 13
The North American International Auto Show’s annual charity preview is expected to bring thousands of individuals to Cobo Conference/Exhibition Center on January 13. Ticket holders are expected to arrive around 5 p.m.

1/11/2012 - ENJOY CONVENIENT PARKING AND DETROIT PEOPLE MOVER DURING NORTH AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW 2012
Individuals attending the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) at Cobo Conference/Exhibition Center will find convenient and accessible parking and transportation in downtown Detroit. The public show runs from January 14 – 22.

The Detroit Department of Human Services is in the process of moving from 5031 Grandy Street to the Herman Kiefer Health Complex, which is located at 1151 Taylor St. in Detroit

12/1/2011 - Mayor Gives Financial Update
As many of you know, there are widespread reports that I received a call from the Governor informing me that he intends to announce that the state will begin a 30-day financial review of the city, a process that could lead to the appointment of an emergency manager. I did receive that call and I am here today with City Council, labor, our community and businesses to say that we are opposed to the Governor beginning this process.

11/22/2011 - CITY OF DETROIT OFFICES CLOSED NOV. 24-25 FOR THANKSGIVING Many City Offices Closed for Budget Furlough on Nov. 23
Most City of Detroit offices will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 24 & Friday, Nov. 25 in observance of Thanksgiving. Normal police, fire, and bus services will be provided. The Department of Public Works (DPW) will NOT collect trash and curbside recycling on Thanksgiving, Nov. 24. Thursdays collection will take place on Friday, Nov. 25. Fridays collection will take place on Saturday, Nov. 26. Also, the DPW drop-off locations will be closed on Thanksgiving but open from 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Nov. 25 and 26. The following City of Detroit offices are closed on Wednesday, Nov. 23 for budget-mandated furlough:

11/18/2011 - MAYOR DAVE BING ANNOUNCES WORKFORCE REDUCTIONS
Delivering on his promise to take swift fiscal action outlined in his city-wide speech earlier this week, Mayor Dave Bing announced today that 1,000 (one-thousand) positions will be eliminated by February 25, 2012. The layoff notices will be delivered to employees beginning the week of December 5, 2011.

Park your vehicles and ride a Detroit Department of Transportation (DDOT) shuttle bus to America’s Thanksgiving Parade on Thursday, Nov. 24, starting at 7 a.m. Riding a DDOT shuttle will ease the stress of heavy traffic delays and eliminate costly parking fees.

The City of Detroit today issued a reminder to parade watchers that scaffolding is prohibited during Thanksgiving events in downtown Detroit. Violators will receive tickets, and the scaffolding will be removed.

In response to the City’s fiscal crisis, Mayor Bing and Administration officials met with union leadership today and outlined a proposal that requested concessions that would result in $42 million in FY 2012 savings from City employees and $118 million annually.

5/13/2009 - MAYOR BING ANNOUNCES MEMBERS OF HIS CABINET AND CRISIS TURNAROUND TEAM
In keeping with his campaign promise, Mayor Dave Bing announced members of his Cabinet and Crisis Turnaround Teams today during a press conference in the Mayor’s Office. This is the first of several press briefings that the Mayor intends to hold to keep the citizens of Detroit informed on his turnaround process. Mayor Bing introduced six members of his Cabinet and nearly 30 members of his Crisis Turnaround team.

Detroit City Council President Monica Conyers will host a "Hats off to Mothers", Pre- Mother’s Day Brunch as a tribute to all mothers across the city on Saturday, May 9, at 1 p.m. at Wings of Love Missionary Baptist Church, located at 17133 John R. at 6 Mile Road. Women are encouraged to wear their special hat to symbolize the essence of motherhood.
