MAYOR BING APPOINTS FIRE COMMISSIONER
Today, Mayor Bing announced the appointment of James W. Mack Jr. as Fire Commissioner for the City of Detroit. Mack is a 30-year veteran of the Detroit Fire Department, serving most recently as 2nd Deputy Fire Commissioner for seven years.
“James Mack brings the experience and leadership skills we need to keep our citizens and city safe,” said Mayor Bing. “I am pleased he has chosen to return from retirement to serve as our Fire Commissioner.”
Mack joined the Detroit Fire Department in 1978, achieving the rank of Sergeant in 1999 and Lieutenant in 2004. He was appointed 2nd Deputy Fire Commissioner in 2002 and served in that position until his retirement in July.
“I would like to thank Mayor Bing for the opportunity to serve the citizens of Detroit once again,” said Mack. “I look forward to leading the department during these challenging times.”
Mack attended Eastern Michigan University’s School of Fire Staff and Command and has served as a Fire and Rescue instructor for Michigan State University.
